L2 Motivational Self System: A Case of Thai EFL Senior High School Students

This study explored the ideal L2 self, ought-to and learning experience of motivational self system (L2MSS) among Thai EFL senior high school students. It took form an explanatory mixed-methods research design using L2MSS questionnaire adopted from Taguchi et al. (2009) Subekti (2018) to collect quantitative data 183 students a semi-structured interview with 6 for qualitative data. Results revealed that were high, while was moderate. The thematic content analysis generated five themes: 1) use English in envisioning future career, 2) entertainment as motivator self-study, 3) influence external factors on internal motivation, 4) impact context, 5) threat examination communication. paper concludes by recommending further relationship constructs achievement how three motivation predict achievement. Researching roles parents creating peers self-efficacy development means generate self-images is also suggested. Keywords: (L2MSS); Ideal self; Ought-to experience; Senior
